Opera on the Mainstage: Tales of Hoffmann
-
Jacques Offenbach's magnum opus interweaves four stories derived from the works of romantic German author E. T. A. Hoffmann, who is the opera’s lead character. Making their Opera Orlando debuts, Metropolitan Opera tenor Won Whi Choi sings the title role, with Cuban-born soprano Laura León singing all four female heroines. Baritone Dennis Jesse, who was a principal in Opera Orlando’s 2016 production of Donizetti’s Don Pasquale, will portray the four villains. Also making their Opera Orlando debuts will be Argentinian conductor Jorge Parodi and stage director Eve Summer. Opera Orlando’s production will highlight the magic and fantasy of each individual story within a steampunk landscape of smoke and mirrors.
